Exterior Paint Colors – 5 Tips to Make Choosing Paint a Snap
For many of our Virginia homeowners, choosing paint for the exterior of their home is an anxiety inducing exercise. We admit that perusing literally hundreds of paint colors in each of the “perfect” choice can be overwhelming, but a few simple tips can help you narrow your choices and select the perfect colors for your home.
1. Don’t clash or copy your direct neighbors. Avoid choosing a color so different from your neighbors that you stand out like a sore thumb. Also, avoid choosing an exact match to the house next door.
2. Peruse neighborhoods and take pictures of the house you like. You can use these photos as a guide at the paint store.
3. Let the outside reflect the inside. If you have a certain color scheme throughout the inside of your home, chances are you like those colors. Think about colors in similar scheme on the outside of the house.
4. Take note of your home’s natural setting. If you have trees or landscaping around your house, choose colors that complement the setting. If you have a beach house, you might think about blues and greens, like those found in the ocean.
5. Trust the experts. Look at the complimentary colors on the paint swatches. Your trim and shutter colors might be found on the same paint swatch as your main house color.
